Four significant opportunities for start-up businesses in 2021
There are many types of start-ups out there: those which create consumer goods and services, those which target large corporations and those which are niche and specialised in digital sustainability.
Vivek Bapat - Senior Vice President, Purpose and Sustainability Marketing, SAP – is one of the mentors of Circklo’s Business Configurator Academy and, in his lecture to our current cohort of start-ups, he offers his advice on the immediate business opportunities that are available to digitally savvy start-ups: visibility of opportunities and gaps across the entire value chain of the business, data and intelligence reporting for compliance and regulation, operational excellence in terms of return on sustainability investment and last but not least, creating new business models directly underpinned by revenue generation.
A start-up with a robust and tested market value proposition, one that is clear about its product/service and how that product or service contributes to the overall business and operational objectives of any enterprise, will always be successful.
What many start-ups lack is not necessarily funding for their beta test, trial, or first-run; they lack a network of senior industry practitioners who can advise and guide them through the complexities surrounding their go-to-market strategy and pitch.
In the words of Maria Morais, Circklo’s Co-founder and Chairwoman, “Vivek has a wealth of direct experience and knowledge of actual, tangible sustainability, and how that aspiration or continuous strive for circularity can be translated into significant corporate gains, financial and not only. I am delighted he is one of our Business Configurator Academy mentors because the lessons he can share with start-ups are invaluable”.
Circklo's Business Configurator Academy is a fixed term, mentorship-driven programme dedicated to start-ups and SMEs aiming to succeed in sustainable digital innovation.
Circklo accelerates start-ups for profit and impact in the areas of:
- Sustainable food and beverage companies;
- Sustainable fashion companies;
- Recycling and reuse of resources (i.e., plastic, metals etc.);
- Non-financial metrics calculators, and track and trace platforms;
- Financial technology (fintech).
Circklo’s mentors and coaches work intensively with all individual teams for 12 weeks, ensuring these are supported to create a refined business plan.
Each 12-week cycle culminates in a Dragons' Guild Day, where the teams which have attended the programme present their business plan to a carefully selected, invite-only panel of investors.
The applications for July 2021 cohort are now open, and we look forward to receiving your application! If you qualify to take part in our programme, we would be delighted to meet you in July!
Set up in London in 2020, Circklo created the first Business Configurator in the world specialised in digital start-ups for the circular economy.
Circklo’s main expertise is in developing seed stage start-ups in the sustainability area.
Circklo offers start-ups both the opportunity to raise capital and accelerate their business and, also, to configure their business in such a way that purpose and profit can successfully coexist and complement each other in the 21st century digital world, fully using and embracing the principles of circular economy.
